Privacy Policy

Effective: October 14, 2026

Universal EQ is a Chrome extension that adjusts audio playing in supported browser tabs. It is developed under the Universal EQ / Dawson name. This policy covers the Chrome Web Store extension and its companion website, including future extension updates.

Audio processing

When you enable the equalizer for a selected tab, Universal EQ accesses that tab's audio to apply equalization and produce an on-screen spectrum. Audio processing takes place locally in your browser using the Web Audio API. The extension does not record, retain, transmit, or upload audio to our servers. On compatible pages it may locally inspect HTML5 media elements to use a fullscreen-friendlier route; otherwise it uses Chrome's tab capture interface. Protected or restricted playback might be unsupported.

Settings and website origins

The extension saves EQ band values, volume/preamp settings, bass toggles, preset names, enabled state and preferences. With “Remember sites” turned on, it also stores website origins (for example, https://example.com — not full paths or the contents of pages) so each site's settings can be restored. These records use chrome.storage.sync. If you are signed into Chrome with syncing enabled, Chrome/Google may synchronize those values through your account under Google's own services and policies. We do not run an account system or receive your browser-synced records.

Permissions

tabCapture captures the selected tab's audio for equalization. offscreen keeps audio processing running when the popup is closed. storage saves your preferences and per-site profiles. activeTab grants temporary access after you interact with Universal EQ. tabs identifies the selected tab and relevant site origin and detects tab changes. scripting injects packaged JavaScript into the selected page only when needed to try compatible media processing and detect media arrival. The code does not upload page contents.

Sharing, analytics and advertising

The extension contains no developer-operated analytics, advertisements, third-party trackers, or remote JavaScript. We do not sell personal data, share tab audio or browsing data with advertisers, or use this information for advertising. Chrome's own synchronization of settings is described above.

Website and demo

The Universal EQ website is a static site that offers an optional audio demo and links visitors to the official Chrome Web Store listing for installation. The demo processes only the bundled track locally in your browser. The website does not include our own analytics or tracking scripts. The hosting provider, Cloudflare, may process basic connection information (including IP addresses and request details) to deliver and protect the website under its own policies.

Your choices and deletion

Turn Universal EQ off from the extension popup to stop active tab audio capture; disable “Remember sites” to stop saving future per-site settings. You can remove the extension in Chrome, and manage/delete synced extension data through Chrome's settings and browser profile. Removing the extension from one device may not immediately erase data already synchronized to other devices.

Limited Use

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Information is used only to provide the browser audio equalizer's features described here.
